An empty corridor was a glorious thing when you wanted to cause trouble without being caught. Alice Fray had learnt this from her many years of law breaking in the muggle world. Much to her pureblood family's distaste; Alice broke muggle laws, but with other muggles or half bloods that had the same 'attitude problems' (her mothers words, not her own) she did. Not that this hindered her thirst to rebel against the pureblood freak show that was her family. She had been arrested more times than she could count and had had just as many arguments with her family to follow; her mother screaming insults at her shamelessly, her father was never usually home but when he was he had the ability the terrify even Alice and of course, her older siblings just didn't care. In short, Alice was a smear of shame on the family name and she had come to realize that she couldn't care less.

Alice was thinking back over her last argument before she left for Hogwarts (on her own of course, though her father had been tempted to send with her a house elf escort, Alice had refused to this point blank and hadn’t even attempted to hide her disgust). And, while replaying the painful truths that her mother had screamed at her, Alice found her pureblood boiling with anger and frustration.

Alice had decided to find an outlet for her anger the second she had woken up that morning. While wanting to fulfill her new reputation as a Slytherin and let everyone know what kind of person she was, she strode down the corridor in search of opportunities for rule breaking, knocking into any careless student who dared not to move out of her way. The silver chain hanging from her jeans and the silver bracelets round her wrists clinked rhythmically with each step as she searched for some way of breaking the rules. After about ten minutes of walking she finally came across an empty corridor, free of students, teachers or ghosts.

“Perfect.” She murmured to herself, satisfied with her find. As hard as it was to believe, empty corridors weren’t all that easy to find in Hogwarts at the weekend. Even though the grounds outside were bathed in sunlight and looked pleasantly inviting.

Then, remembering she had brought her messenger bag with her that contained her art book, pencils and spray paints: she had an idea. At the thought of this plan unfolding she grinned slyly to herself, her many silver ear piercings glinting in the sunlight that was streaming down the corridor.

Admittedly she knew her plan to spray paint some really big design across the wall of the corridor wasn't as effective as it would be in a non-magical school. The teachers could probably remove it with a flick of their wand here at Hogwarts, but still...Alice habits of breaking rules were going to die hard, if at all, and so she had lost the will to care about what she did anymore and whether she got caught was even less of an interest. The worst they could do was suspend or expel her and return her back to her stupid family (that would make her family furious, and anything that made Alice’s family angry was fine with her).

Alice was pretty sure she would figure out a way to make this spray paint design stay more permanently when she was done, and so she perched on the edge of a windowsill and opened her messenger bag. She glanced inside to see what colour spray paints she had with her today. While considering what she would spray paint across the corridor she looked up suddenly as the noise of footsteps met her ears and the person responsible for disturbing her plans walked into sight from round the corner....

Headed to the main staircase, so she could escape the confides of the building. Payton made her way down many different corridors and flights of stairs. At times she did get lost and a little confused, the building was huge and when her mind was else where, she would forget where she was. So every so often she had to stop and double check if she was on the right path. “There are way to many floors.” She laughed to herself when she was a floor away from her goal.

With her still orange saddle bag, Payton picked up her pace some. The days lessons had been to long and she wanted to feel the suns rays on her face before it went in for the day. All day she thought about sitting by the lake and just relaxing.

Finally hitting the last right corner, Payton stopped in her tracks. Wow, she thought as she looked down the corridor. The strip was dead, not one person stood or walked, the silence was kind of eerie. Payton was used to walking these corridors and them being packed with kids either standing around or passing through. But to see if completely empty was a new wonder.

“Everyone must be outside already,” she spoke to herself as she pulled her flaming red hair into a pony tail. Walking slowly down the corridor, Payton enjoyed the sound her foot steps bouncing off the walls.

Alice narrowed her amber eyes, flicking the flaming red side fringe from her face as she considered just how typical it was for her to have been disturbed so quickly. Her easily aggravated temper flared dangerously. This Slytherin student better be tougher than she looked because Alice was ready to scare her away by whatever means that came to mind first. She didn't really care if this student was older than her or not, it had never stopped her in the past to argue her case with anyone (her night in the Forbidden Forest where she first encountered Maddie and Mia came to mind quite suddenly).

Realising she had the element of surprise she grinned slyly to herself, jumping down from the windowsill and landing silently on her black converse all-star clad feet. She narrowed her amber eyes once again, her expression far from friendly.

" Excuse me," Alice said in a tone that made it blatantly obvious she didn't care about being polite. "Whatever you're doing here, and I warn you I don't really care, but I would advise you to leave now. I'm busy." Alice explained shortly, watching the girl's reaction carefully. If she knew what was best for her she would leave Alice alone. Though admittedly, now the situation had came about, Alice realised this was probably one of the first younger students (meaning under fourth year students) that Alice had willingly engaged in conversation.

The silence along with the emptiness made Payton somewhat uneasy. Placing her hand inside her robes, she closed her fingers around the end of her wand. She was taking no chance, to many older students picked on her and played pranks, she wasn’t going to her caught off guard.

Now fully alert and ready for anything, Payton walked more silently and completely aware of her surroundings. With every step her fingers tightened on her wand and her ears strained for the slightest sound, when a soft thud altered her. Spinning on her heal Payton wasted no time and pulled out her wand. Before she could stop herself the spell left her lips “Sectumsempra.” A silver bolt flew out of the tip of her wand right at the person standing in front of her. It whizzed past the girls right ear hitting a statue right behind her. There was a cracking sound, then a loud crash and pieces of the statue littered the corridor. “That could have been you ear.” Payton warned in a icy tone as a wicked smirk crept across her face.

Looking the girl up and down Payton sees she in her house. “Ah, explains it all. First year I see.” Wand still at the ready Payton wasn’t letting her guard down, she trusted no one, not even her own house. She was going to prove them all that size was nothing and she was going to start with the one in front of her.

Alice actually felt the spell speed past her ear, though she didn't bother turning to see what destruction lay behind her. Though by the sounds of it, she expected the caretaker who would have to clean it up wouldn't be too pleased. Alice remained stood where she was, unflinching. In fact, she hardly reacted at all. She found she was a little amused by this turn of events. But she wasn't going to turn her back on this student. It wasn't that she was scared (which was a weak emotion Alice only gave into only every so often), it would just be base line stupidity to take her eyes off this student who was sadly quick to reach for her wand. Little did the girl know Alice was used to these kinds of 'greetings' at home. If Alice had been back home, that spell would have been the equivalent of 'Hello'.

" Oh please," Alice rolled her eyes, her tone dripping with sarcasm. She folded her arms lazily, a smirk playing across her lips momentarily." I hope you realize that my own mother can do better than that, and trust me, she has a much better aim." Alice laughed, pulling the sleeve of her shirt up over her sliver bracelets and past her elbow to show a faint, painful looking burn mark that had 'happened' a few years ago. She would have went on to show a few of her other family argument scars, but she despised people knowing too much about her business. Though Alice had a feeling that was enough of an explanation for now, she expected the Slytherin would ask other questions. Depending on what the questions were, Alice may actually answer a few.

Alice left her arms folded, not reaching for her wand… Yet. Of course, if the student got herself too worked up again, Alice was going to enjoy resorting to violence. Though Alice had a little more self-control than this girl seemed to. "Tell me, what year are you in? Because I find it odd, and a little pathetic to tell the truth, that anyone above first year would be so irrational as to reach for her wand and attack a younger student so quickly." Alice asked patronizingly, her amber eyes glinting slyly in the sunlight.

Oh Please, Payton thought to herself with eyebrows raised, we’ll see about that. Pointing her wand at the mess on the floor she flicked her wand and without saying a word the mess cleaned itself up. The arm of the statue looked like nothing ever happened to it and there were no signs of cracks or anything from where she was standing.

Looking back at the girl Payton wanted wipe that cocky grin from her face. O she thinks she so tough, please, she thought to herself as she looked the newbie up and down one more time. When the girl spoke Payton felt no pity for her, “that’s nice for your mother, to bad she just hasn’t taken you out yet.” Her grey eyes sparkled with evilness and she was so ready for anything at this point. As Payton watched the girl show her some scar Payton shrugged her shoulders. Did this girl expect her to feel something, not. At this time Payton felt nothing for no body and she wasn’t going to start now, but knew she should lower her wand.

With her wand facing the ground Payton wouldn’t take her eyes off the Slytherin girl who stood before her. What year am I? the question bounced around in her head. “I’m a 2nd year and have to on guard all the time, because stupid people….” Payton’s thought was interrupted by a shadow on the wall behind the first year. Stepping an inch or so over Payton sees that the shadow is not getting any bigger, but it is getting closer. “The caretakers spy.” Payton whispered looking sidelong at the girl. Pointing her wand at the corner of the corridor Payton send sparks in that direction, just to scare the cat off. She was so not in the mood to go and have a visit with the headmaster.

Turning back to her subject Payton “put it this way, to many people pick on me and I’ve had enough. They all will learn the hard way, by the end of my wand in their faces.” Her voice was filled with anger and annoyance, but she wasn’t going to allow the pain to show itself any time soon, especially in front of someone she didn’t know.

Glancing back at the corner Payton could see that the shadow was retreating with speed.

Alice raised an eyebrow, her expression neutral. She was silently questioning the Slytherin girl’s words. Considering and mulling over her reason for being overly on guard. Against what Alice would like to think, she recognized the feeling of fighting against people who put you down all too well - Alice had been rebelling against her stupid family for what felt like forever. In fact, the very reason she was even there in that corridor was because she was addicted to breaking rules. She almost craved the bad reputation because it angered her parents even more, and it was partly because it was a hell of a lot of fun. Alice could feel a mutual respect for this girl. She had the right idea. Under no circumstances should you go down without a fight. At least that’s how Alice looked at things.

"Fair point." Alice nodded her head fractionally in agreement of her idea. She didn't feel any sympathy (also a weak emotion in Alice's opinion, and her family's, too), but she could empathize, at least. " Though maybe hold back on the violence, only until you decide you don't like the person." Alice smiled; feeling slightly more relaxed as she sat back on the windowsill, her arms crossed lazily still. Her many silver ear piercings glinted in the bright sunlight streaming in through the window.

"I'm Alice." She added, not mentioning her second name. It was now just a force of habit she didn't even have to think about, as if she didn't have a second name at all. If she had it her way, she would never be recognized by her pureblood name 'Fray' ever again. Suddenly Alice remembered her previous plan of Graffiti, and another thought hit her. She could steer this disturbance to her advantage. " You any good at charms? Permanent sticking spells, things like that?" Alice asked, or maybe more demanded from her impatient tone of voice.

“I know who you are, my parents sent me word you got in and that I should keep good distance from you.” Payton speaks coolly as her gaze goes from the end of the hall to Alice sitting on the ledge of the window. “Are families know each. I do not know what you have done before here, but I was just told you were a rogue, a rebelling youngster, that is all. And with you asking me about Charms, now I see why.” Smiling at prospect of a new friend, Payton figured she would not be a show off, that would get her nowhere and she wanted a little of an upper hand on this friendship.

Payton knew deep down inside that Alice was up to no good and if she helped her in anyway that eventually it would blow up in her face. However, there was a good chance it wouldn’t Payton knew more then any second year and it would look like a sixth or seventh year had done it. Meeting Alice stare “what do you have in mind?” she asks her fellow housemate.

A gnawing feeling crept into Payton’s stomach, she had never done anything to break rules or ever really gotten into any trouble. I guess being one of seven always kept her in line; she saw what her older siblings did and did not want to get into the same predicament. I am tired of being miss goody good, she thought sitting there looking at Alice. “What I do know is wordless magic. My siblings taught me, but it was before I got here and they did not want to get into trouble teaching me. So they taught me everything, well not everything but most that way.” Payton surged “So whatever you have planned I can assist, as best I can.” Payton drops her gaze; she begins searching her brain for the permanent sticking charm.

Alice laughed at the news her parents had allowed her bad reputation to spread. This was a pleasant surprise. She was not only a shame to her own family, but other pure bloods knew she was giving them all a bad name too. 'Excellent' Alice thought smugly to herself, the idea that her reputation proceeded her was something Alice hadn't expected here at Hogwarts so quickly. "Rebelling youngster? Ha, that’s my dear mother and father being nice, you should hear what they call me at home" Her tone dropped slightly quieter at this particular thought; at odd times her family's words did hit a painful nerve (the precise reason why Alice had been determined to lock her weak emotions beneath the surface for years). "I presume you haven't had the horror of meeting my mother? But you may have done if our family knows yours?" Alice smirked. "What is your name?" She added (her tone sounding unavoidably demanding), relaxing her folded arms so that the bracelets clinked lightly.

Alice could feel a mischievous grin spreading across her face at the girl’s words. Her idea to cause trouble seemed to be working out well, though there did seem to be a snag in her newly formulated plan. Her well-trained eye noticed uneasiness in her fellow Slytherins face. Alice knew a well-practiced troublemaker when she saw one; this Slytherin was definitely inexperienced in the area of being a professional pain to society (especially to the purebloods). And as the Slytherin girl continued to talk, Alice felt her nerves fray slightly 'Alright, alright, I don't need to hear your entire life story’ she had thought to herself, internally fighting from rolling her eyes. " Well, I was planning a rather impressive show of vandalism, using spray paints. I have a design in mind, though, of course, you are now in on the crime with me. So, would you care to share any ideas?" Alice asked, jumping down from the window ledge. Flipping the flap of her messenger bag open she pulled out a can of spray paint and shook it hastily to ready the paint for spraying. She had a feeling she was going to have fun, and maybe it wouldn't hurt her so much to actually act marginally friendly to someone she didn't know for once.
